SAN FIRE Braves The Shave for Charity 2024

Today, there are more than four million cancer survivors in America - and this year alone, hundreds of thousands more will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in the United States alone. This years theme being one that everyone should remember - No one should face breast cancer alone.

This month SAN FIRE has supported Cancer Awareness, on average of all first responders - firefighters are 2.4% likely to be diagnosed with occupational-related cancer, prostate, leukemia or lung cancer and deaths are 1.6% higher than the general population of the United States.

SAN FIRE personnel on Saturday attended the Pillbox Hill Medical Center and Los Santos Fire Department's Breast Cancer Awareness Month event at the ULSA Campus to show their support for the attendees brave enough to brave the shave alongside Pillbox Hill Medical Center, Los Santos Fire Department and ULSA students. A few SAN FIRE employees were brave enough to face the clippers of resident hair stylist Rhianna and donate their hair to charity. Something they will be forever proud of and no doubt onlookers and other colleagues in attendance were proud too!

PIO Alex Jorgensen Before and After

No stranger to the sound of clippers, Information Officer Alex Jorgensen was up first. Having shaved his head now four times in a row he had this to say;

"I've had the unfortunate experience of losing multiple colleagues and friends to the horrible fate of cancer - having sadly lost many who have helped me on my career journey as a firefighter, then Deputy Fire Marshal and even Information Officer to this terrible disease, I'm happy to have done this four times in a row now - I'm known for my usual hair flop. But, as I always say - Hair is hair, it'll grow back and if it helps give someone the confidence throughout their cancer journey? Then that's okay with me."

Deputy Morgan Baker Before and After

While some people are confident enough to go the one hundred yards, some chose their own way of supporting - Deputy Morgan Baker of Community Preparedness and Mitigation was up after and donated a good chunk of her hair - Opting for a pixie cut over going bald and spoke of her decision;

"As a Deputy Fire Marshal in the state of San Andreas, I'm not a stranger to tough battles, but the battle against cancer is one I have seen hit home again and again. This day, I decided to cut and donate my hair to honor the immense strength and stand in solidarity of those facing this fight─friends, colleagues, and loved ones who have fought and faced this with bravery. For me, this is just hair; it will grow back. But this decision and gesture is a reminder to those in the fight that they are not alone in this—YOU are not alone. We are here, standing with YOU every step of the way."

All in all, our personnel were proud to stand hand-in-hand with other participants who braved the shave for charity at the event organised by Pillbox Hill Medical Center, showing solidarity for cancer sufferers and survivors across the United States - October may be nearly over. But, our support for cancer awareness and those living with cancer will never waiver.
