Statement on Deputy Involved Shooting (16/08/2023)
On Sunday the 16th of July 2023 at around 16:00, SAN FIRE Arson Prevention Team responded to a call regarding an off duty Deputy Fire Marshal in distress within the area of Morningwood, reportedly being pursued by an at large arsonist. The on duty deputies remained in contact with the off duty deputy who led the pursuit to Marathon Avenue outside SAN FIRE's Rockford Headquarters, where the suspect withdrew a firearm and began firing upon the fleeing off duty deputy who was subsequently seriously injured.
Deputies engaged the suspect with their service firearms resulting in a deputy-involved shooting. The Los Santos Police Department was in attendance & the Los Santos Fire Department rendered aid to all parties involved. Injured parties were transported to a local trauma center where both deputies involved have subsequently made a full recovery.
A firearm was recovered from the suspect who was declared deceased on the scene and identified as Los Santos County resident & at large arsonist Sean Baxter, who was subject of a High Risk Arrest Warrant for failing to appear in court.
Sean Baxter was subject of a criminal investigation several months prior by SAN FIRE for a suspected arson incident at the Paleto Lumberyard on the 1st of June and subsequently arrested and charged with FA 301. Arson, FA 201. Attempted Capital Murder, FC. 115 Evading a Peace Officer, MC 701. Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and FB. 120 Assault & Battery on a Government Worker.
This incident has been referred to the San Fire Internal Affairs Bureau for internal use of force review.
